NEW YEAR CONGRATULATION FROM THE DMR PRESIDENT

Dear Dniestrians,

On the eve of the New Year, I address you with greeting, words of hope and belief in our future.

Traditionally, we consider the New Year holiday the starting point of new deals and summaries of what each man, state, and the whole society has experienced.

We have lived the finishing year doing everyday work, having everyday care, aspiring to enforce our developing state, to confirm the right of Dniestrian people to determine their future independently. This was the year of unprecedented economic and political blockade committed by the Republic of Moldova, regular provocation of its authority. But we repulsed it regardless of that.

Despite the very complicated economic situation, non-weakening blockade from Moldova, the Ministers’ Cabinet consequently conducts policy of enforcing food security of the republic, social protection of handicapped people, veterans, pensioners, and other strata of the population.

In the republican economy, there continues development of reforms started before. Inflation processes have considerably slowed, foreign economic contacts have grown, embodying now over 90 countries. The program of gasification is being successfully accomplished. Good harvest of cereals has been cropped.

Of course, we have not managed to fulfill what we had planned, we still have to do much. It has been very hard to us but we managed to prove that even under extreme conditions the republic is viable and is able to provide sustainable development.

In domain of international relationship, we vote for development of multilateral contacts with guarantor-states: the Russian Federation and Ukraine, with the rest countries of the CIS, and with another states.

We vote for continuation of the negotiation process with the Republic of Moldova in any forms of interstate cooperation: association, confederate relationship, federation on conventional basis, unlike the unitary approach of the Republic of Moldova, which is now rejected by the guarantor-countries as well as by the OSCE in general.

Meeting the year 2003, we are sure in success of our deeds, of those plans and programs, outlined for future.

I address each Dniestrian family, all citizens of the republic with particular warmness on the eve of the New Year. The future of our kids and grand-children depends on each of us, on our labor. So let us do it happier, nicer, and richer. Let the starting year make all your dreams, expectations, and hopes come true!

Happy New Year, dear fellow citizens, dear Dniestrians!

Happiness, well being, and peace to you!

Igor Smirnov, the DMR President.
