THE DNIESTRIAN STATE UNIVERSITY IS SEVENTY-TWO.

 

Today, the Dniestrian State University named after T. Shevchenko marks its 72nd anniversary since the day of foundation.

Nowadays, the University includes over 70 chairs, 13 basic faculties: historical, law, economic, medical, agricultural, engineer-and-technical (with software PC), engineer-and-pedagogic, philological, pedagogic (with a department of arts), physics-and-mathematics, natural geographical, physical education and sports, and a scientific research department. It also has a faculty of industrial and civil construction on basis of Bendery polytechnic college.

Besides, the DSU also includes 30 scientific research labs, a computing center, an agro-biological station, the center of pre-University studying, the department of public professions, the cultural youth center “Sputnik”, and the sports club “Record”. The University scientific library is the biggest one in the republic – its book funds have over 850 thousand copies. The staff and publishing department provides needs of the University in scientific-methodical and didactic literature. The educational work is carried out in four museums of the University and laboratory.

About 14 thousand people study and work in the University, 10330 are students of internal and correspondence departments. Youngsters not only from Dniestria but also from Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, and other countries of near and far abroad get education here. Studying is carried out in three state languages: Russian, Moldavian, and Ukrainian.

Scientific and educational work is carried out by Russian didactic plans and standards. The RF ministry of education Supreme Attestation Commission grants scientific degrees and titles to the DSU collaborators, diplomas of our University’s graduates are provided with certificate of equivalence to Russian diplomas. Ukraine and Belarus express full understanding and willingness to help their compatriots. Representatives of the DSU sustain their dissertations in these countries, students and aspirants from Dniestria study by quotes there.

In 1999, the Dniestrian State University was admitted to the Eurasian Association of leading state universities of the CIS countries. The DSU also maintain close cooperation with the Moscow State University named after M. Lomonosov in educational and scientific-methodical domain.

On October 1st, a solemn gathering devoted to the 72nd anniversary of the University took place in the DSU. Many professors and collaborators of the University were rewarded the honorable titles “Outstanding Worker In Public Education” and the DMR ministry of education deeds for responsible mission of preparing specialists of superior level for the DMR economy. Besides, the oldest professor of the University Ippolit Antosyak was rewarded the deed of the President of the Dniester Moldavian Republic, and Mikhail Parovan was awarded the medal “For Labor Courage” by decree of the President of Republic. The festive concert finished the solemn action.
